Chorus2016The Sarasota Chorus of the Keys, chartered in 1949 as a chapter of the international Barbershop Harmony Society, is a 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit organization with a total membership of over 140 men. A member of the Arts Councils of Sarasota and Manatee Counties and the Sarasota County Chamber of Commerce, the mission of the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys and its quartets is to seek to preserve and further develop the original American art form of four-part a cappella harmony through musical excellence and through frequent public performances for the broadest possible spectrum of Southwest Florida audiences; and to contribute to the cultural development of the community through responsible public service while providing charitable support to benefit school music educators and students participating in their music programs.

The chorus maintains a scholarship endowment fund which has been funded from estate gifts from its members. The income from this fund provides the means to offer scholarships to male high school seniors in Sarasota and Manatee Counties with a record of outstanding musical achievement who plan to attend college.

Over the years the chorus has awarded scholarships totaling $78,000 to 81 students. In addition the chorus continues to provide tuition for students and music educators attending college level music clinics and workshops, and professional college level training for high school music educators and choral directors in the four-part a cappella harmony style.

High school male students who feel they qualify may read and print out the three page application package (in pdf format) by clicking here.
